About the startup

PennyPod is a virtual ledger where kids make deposits (to the Bank of Mom & Dad) and the parents set the interest rate, even a generous one if parents want their kids to see the power of compounding sooner. Parents are freed from managing spreadsheets or pen and paper alternatives and kids get to watch their lemonade stand money grow. The app runs automatic interest calculations on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. Kid Mode hides the admin stuff and shows kids a growth garden and a chart of how their money has grown. Time Machine projects today's balance to any future age, so the kid can see what $10/month deposited becomes at 18 (or 65 if you want to hear them howl). It's a teaching tool with the parent holding the cash as an alternative to setting up actual bank accounts. Completely free for one kid with a lifetime $6.99 family upgrade for multiple kids.

Drip's Leadpages deal was a 13-month acquisition, not a revenue chart

Rob Walling used Startups for the Rest of Us episode 298 to describe Drip's sale to Leadpages as a long strategic acquisition, and he kept purchase price and recurring revenue off the record.

Pat Flynn's first product month was $7,906.55, a year and a half after the study blog

Pat Flynn says he was laid off as an architect in 2008, then sold a LEED-exam ebook into traffic he had already built; October's $7,906.55 was the first month with his own product, not the first month the site existed.

Ship 30 for 30 started as a $50 Slack challenge, not a later AI newsletter

Dickie Bush says Ship 30 for 30 began in November 2020 when he asked about 500 followers to write daily, had 50 people in Slack six days later, and later wrote with Nicolas Cole that they had taught 10,000-plus students
