About the startup

Orbis is a mobile app for learning geopolitics and world history in short lessons. The idea is simple. The news tell you what happened but rarely why it matters or how it got there, and most history apps hand you dates and trivia. Orbis focuses on general concepts of geopolitics: the geopgrahy, the history, the resources and how power actually works. The main feature are:

  • 600+ lessons between 5-10 minutes, covering averything from Ancient Rome to the Chip Wars
  • 5000+ flashcards
  • A daily news feed with explanations and context
  • Reference section: country profiles, leaders, conflicts, strategic chokepoints, and rankings for GDP, military strength and nuclear arsenals
  • An interactive 3D globe with map layers for alliances, conflicts and resources Courses run from the fundamentals of geopolitics through the Cold War, the British Empire, the US-China chip war, Iran, Russia-Ukraine, and 12,000 years of world history. iOS and Android. 7-day free trial.

Ship 30 for 30 started as a $50 Slack challenge, not a later AI newsletter

Dickie Bush says Ship 30 for 30 began in November 2020 when he asked about 500 followers to write daily, had 50 people in Slack six days later, and later wrote with Nicolas Cole that they had taught 10,000-plus students
