About the startup
Weird engine noise? EngineEar AI records ~50 seconds of your engine and returns a structured take on what's likely going on — ranked mechanical causes, urgency level, recommended checks, and confidence indicator. Not a workshop replacement — a second opinion you can walk into the workshop with. One feature worth explaining is wear evaluation. When the AI listens to your engine, it doesn't just look for individual defects. It compares the overall acoustic signature against what a car of your make, year and mileage should sound like. If a 5-year-old car with 50,000 km already sounds like a 200,000 km workhorse, that's worth knowing. Mileage is a proxy — often a bad one. Two cars with the same odometer can be in wildly different mechanical states. The acoustic fingerprint tells a truer story. HOW IT WORKS Guided Mode walks you through 30 s of engine idle + 20 s of gentle revs (up to ~3,000 rpm), 50 seconds total, with a countdown. Free Mode lets you start and stop manually, auto-capped at 90 seconds. Audio is uploaded via HTTPS, analyzed, and deleted from our servers within seconds of the response. No account, no cloud sync of your history, no advertising ID. GDPR-compliant, 25 languages — AI diagnostic responses localized to your language. MY GARAGE — FREE, NO SUBSCRIPTION Everything vehicle-related in the app stays free, no matter what plan you choose: - Multiple vehicle profiles (make, model, year, mileage, fuel type, timing-drive details, optional license plate) - Fuel log (volume, cost, mileage, notes) with automatic cost-per-liter and consumption trends - Maintenance schedule with reminders — plus one-time events (warranty extension, seasonal tire swap) that aren't tied to an interval - Editable service history per item — every Mark-Done is a log entry, not an overwrite - Per-vehicle stats: total spend, cost per kilometer, average cost per month, monthly breakdown of fuel vs maintenance vs other (tolls, parking, trip extras) - Backup and Restore: pick what to back up (incl. generated PDF/CSV exports, mileage rates, custom currency), save a ZIP via the system file picker, migrate to a new device any time TRIP LOGBOOK — TAX-READY, FREE A full digital trip logbook is the fifth pillar of My Garage. It's built for anyone who needs mileage records for tax: self-employed, freelancers, sales reps, mobile trades, or anyone claiming business kilometers. Log every trip per vehicle as private, business, or commute. Fuel entries you already track in the Fuel Log auto-match to the right trip by date and mileage — no manual assignment, no double-entry. Business trips capture the customer or purpose alongside the route. Editable mileage-allowance rates power the tax estimate: 2026 German defaults built in, override any rate for your own country, and the total on the PDF recalculates instantly. Exports go straight to your tax advisor: pick date range and format (CSV or PDF), filter by vehicle and purpose. Single-vehicle PDFs put the license plate in the header; multi-vehicle PDFs group trips by vehicle with per-plate subtotals — clean handoff, no manual sorting. Every generated CSV/PDF is kept in an in-app Export History. Everything runs on your device — no GPS tracking, no cloud sync, no account. It's a personal record, not GoBD-certified, and the export footer makes that clear. Only the AI analyses themselves require an active subscription. Weekly and Monthly plans are available; current local prices and usage limits are shown in-app before you subscribe. Everything in My Garage — including the Trip Logbook — stays free forever. AN HONEST NOTE ON ACCURACY Recognition quality depends on the microphone. Built-in phone mics roll off the low and high frequencies that carry most of the diagnostic signal, and background noise widens that gap. Because of that variance, EngineEar AI errs on the side of flagging — sometimes calling out findings a mechanic would shrug at. In a quiet spot with a decent external mic clipped near the engine, the assessments get sharp. Straight from your phone in a windy parking lot, treat individual line items with a grain of salt and trust the overall trend. We prefer to say this upfront rather than oversell. The value is a second opinion you can bring into the workshop, not a replacement for a mechanic who has their hands on the car. WHY WE BUILT IT We were convinced that engine sounds carry more information than we give them credit for. A motor doesn't just "run" — it exhales its condition through vibration, exhaust rhythm, valve ticks, injector timing. Modern audio models have quietly become good enough to read them. The question we couldn't shake: if a mechanic can diagnose a knock by ear, why can't a well-trained model get close? EngineEar AI is our honest attempt at answering that — and mapping where the limits actually are. AVAILABLE ON Android — Google Play. Feedback welcome on whether that changes the shortlist.
