About the startup
Quill is a free macOS dictation app that types directly into whatever you're working in. Hold a key, speak, release. Your words appear in the active text field - Notion, Slack, VS Code, Notes, Terminal, anything on your Mac. No switching apps. No copy-pasting. Just speak and keep going. What makes it different Most dictation tools are either locked behind a subscription or rely on cloud servers to process your voice. Quill runs entirely on your Mac using WhisperKit and Parakeet, an on-device AI model. Your audio never leaves your machine. The built-in macOS Dictation exists, but it's buried in System Settings, clunky to trigger, and sends audio to Apple's servers in enhanced mode. Quill gives you one key to hold, instant transcription, and zero cloud dependency. Key features: - Hold-to-talk trigger: set any key or combo, works system-wide - Types directly into any text field on macOS - Fully on-device, no account, no internet required - Auto-punctuation so you never have to say "comma" out loud - Local dictation history you can search and copy from - Free forever, no subscription, no paid tier Who it's for If you write a lot and want to go faster without paying monthly for a voice tool, Quill is built for you. Solopreneurs, writers, developers, anyone who talks faster than they type.
